The papers of Charles A. Dewey primarily relate to his career on the bench. The collection is comprised of correspondence and subject files providing a view of the Iowa legal scene from the 1890s to the early 1950s. There are over thirty folders contaning Judge Dewey's instructions to various juries. And a lawsuit involving Union Carbide and Carbon Corporation is documented in great detail with court proceedings, appeals, petitions, trial briefs, etc. The judge's correspondence files include letters from: William F. Riley, John B. Sanborn, Seth Thomas, and Fred M. Vinson. The papers also contain Judge Dewey's speeches and writings.
